Reconditioned? Items missing, and poorly packaged, June 22, 2010

I bought this “reconditioned” saw last week through Amazon from CPO (It appears that CPO re-designates the 6955-20 as a 6955-80, which is not particularly helpful as Milwaukee has no such designation.) It arrived very quickly, perhaps a reflection on how eager they were to get rid of it, as it was simply dumped into its damaged box along with a loose blade and several pieces of cardboard. The saw arrived with several large scratches, but missing the operator’s manual, blade wrench, dust elbow and dust bag. This negligence leaves me with no confidence in the “reconditioning” it may have – or should have – received.

I was unsure about purchasing this saw from Amazon because of the negative feedback left by other purchaser’s of the factory reconditioned saw. Unlike the other reviewers, I had no major problems with the saw. It was delivered on time with minimal hassle. The brass Slide Lock screw did break the moment I touched it, however. I found a replacement part for it by searching the internet for milwaukee replacement parts. It’s going to cost me $1.32 for the screw, but considering I saved about $200 by buying the reconditioned saw as opposed to the brand new saw, I’m ok with that.

A point of note: the reconditioned saw comes with a one year warranty. The new saw comes with Milwaukee’s standard five year warranty.

As for the saw itself, I could not be happier. I did a lot of research (both by reading reviews online and through hands on experience with each of the saws I considered) and I’ve determined that they all seem to be great saws. It really comes down to personal preference in my opinion. This one works for me and I love it.

I just received this item from CPO (not Amazon). The handle is broken out of the box. Package is horrible like the above said. They put in large plastic air pad versus solid foam. This is 80 pound package, and using large plastic air pad? Now I got to find out how to get this issue resolved. I got RMA for this. It’s a hassle, lost time of at least a week.
